Welcome to this seventh Friday 5, a roundup of Recipes of the Day featured on YayYay’s Kitchen Facebook page in the last week.

Recipes of the Day from March 4-10, 2016

This week’s whole food, real food recipes from around the web include maple Dijon nuts from Downton Abbey’s kitchens, colorful lentil tacos, a butternut squash soup that looks and tastes of pure sunshine,  a quick thirty-minute Mexican skillet and cinnamon-laced nut butter.

Almost all these recipes are as quick to make and colorful to serve as they are flavorful and good for us. How many did you have a chance to try?

Each Friday you’ll find at least five recipes here, maybe six or seven, depending on how the foodie stars aligned. Most are vegetarian, some vegan. Occasionally the Recipe of the Day includes meat or meat stock. YayYay’s is a flexitarian whole-foods kitchen.

Friday: No recipe of the day today. Sorry folks. Too much fun playing with the 3-year-old!

Saturday: Maple Dijon nuts via The Downton Abbey Kitchen (and their sponsors, I’m afraid, but this recipe too good to pass up–just use organic, Fair Trade sourced ingredients and you’re good)

Monday: Butternut squash soup via Laney of Life is But a Dish

Tuesday: Mexican skillet with buckwheat (kasha) via Meggan of Culinary Hill

Wednesday: No recipe today. We’re having leftovers. What about you?

Thursday: Cinnamon mixed nut butter via Melanie at Nutritious Eats

  1. What is so lovely about this feature, apart from your encouraging us to attempt and try the recipes is that it’s a little database of tempting treats,new finds and some great ideas. Easy to find under Friday 5, what shall I cook this week? It has to be Butternut squash soup!

    • Good choice, Vicky! It’s delicious. Coming soon: How I used her recipe and parts of one of my old favorites, to create a new one. I’d love to hear what you do with her recipe.


  2. That butternut squash soup is beautiful! I haven’t made anything vegetarian this week, BUT my daughter and I had lovely mushroom soup from the cafe at our Good Foods Coop. Having grown up on Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom soup, this was a revelatory experience for me! I’ll be adding it to my favorite recipes to cook at home.

    • Oh, yes, I can imagine. I used to use the soup you mention in a recipe. I always had to hold my nose when I opened the can. I finally decided something that made me gag couldn’t be helping the recipe either! Turns out, it’s easier than ever I imagined to make these things at home.
